Music is one of the best-known themes in theme cruising. A music cruise can be a full-blown festival on a chartered ship, a fan club traveling together on a regular sailing, or a line-run program of live bands and tribute shows.
On a full-ship music charter, an organizer books the whole ship and builds a festival schedule: several stages, from the pool deck to the main theater, plus smaller sets in lounges, Q&A sessions, theme nights and artist meet-and-greets. Charter companies such as Sixthman have produced full-ship music cruises for more than two decades, including the long-running rock festival The Rock Boat, and independent festivals like Jam Cruise announce their line-ups well ahead of sailing. Because demand is high, returning guests and fan-club members are often offered cabins first.
A music group is smaller: a band, a radio station, a dance club or a fan community reserves a block of cabins and adds private concerts or gatherings to an ordinary cruise. Everyone else aboard enjoys the usual vacation, and the group enjoys extra events of its own.
Find Your Genre
Each genre has its own style of cruise. Our dedicated sites go deeper on each one:
- Rock Music Cruises — classic rock, alternative and heavier festivals at sea, often on full-ship charters.
- Jazz Music Cruises — jazz, smooth jazz and blues sailings with intimate club-style sets.
- Country Music Cruises — country and Americana artists, songwriter rounds and line dancing.
- Pop Music Cruises — pop acts, boy bands and fan-community cruises.
- Big Band Cruises — swing orchestras and ballroom dancing at sea.

Choosing a Music Cruise
| Full-ship charter | Music group block | Line-run music program | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who is aboard | Fans only | Your group plus regular guests | Regular guests |
| Schedule | Festival-style, day and night | A few private events | Nightly shows and lounge acts |
| How you book | Through the charter organizer | Through the group host or an advisor | Like any cruise |
| Best for | Devoted fans of the line-up | Clubs and fan groups | Anyone who likes live music |
Before you book, check the organizer’s payment schedule and cancellation policy, whether drinks or gratuities are included, and what happens if a performer cancels. Our cruise advisors at Mister Cruise can help you compare a charter with a regular sailing that has strong live music.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to love every artist on a music cruise?
No. Most music charters have a headliner plus many supporting acts, and part of the fun is discovering new artists. Look at the overall style of the line-up rather than a single name.
Is a music charter loud all night?
Shows often run late, but most ships have quiet spaces away from the venues. If you are a light sleeper, ask for a cabin away from the main venues and the pool deck.
Can I bring someone who is not a fan?
Yes. Ports, pools, spas and dining are all still there. On a full-ship charter, though, the program is the main event, so a non-fan may prefer a regular cruise with a music group block.
